We chose the name ‘Meta’ for our botrytised, late harvested Riesling, as it embodies the remarkable change of condition the grapes undergo as they are transformed by noble rot over the final weeks of Autumn. A metamorphosis from healthy fruit into ugly and shrivelled but intensely concentrated, sweet berries.

Once harvested these have the potential to yield one of the most hedonistic, nectarous wines you can imagine. Aromas of citrus zest, orange blossom honey and marmalade are poised against a luscious and pronounced sweetness on the palate which persists thanks to a backbone of enlivening acidity.

Winemakers Notes

The grapes were selectively hand-harvested in the vineyard and the fruit was gently whole-bunch pressed with the juice returned to the skins for an overnight maceration to soak up further flavour, sugars and acidity. Upon pressing again the juice was settled naturally and fermented with selected yeast strains in a small stainless steel tank. With minimal intervention throughout, the wine naturally ceased fermentation at ~8.5% alcohol. The wine spent 7 months on light lees, followed by gentle filtration before being bottled in December 2025.

5 STARS

"A real treat, the striking 2025vintage (*****) is a fully botrytised, late harvest style, grown in the Blind River district.  Light gold, it is notably rich, with an oily texture and concentrated peach, apricot and honey flavours, sweet, vigorous, finely poised and long.  Best drinking 2028+."

Excellent - Outstanding

"Beautifully aromatic, flower petal, apple, honey, a wisp of mushroomy botrytis, lemon curd. The sweetness is evident, yet there’s beautiful purity, and with its apple and citrus notes it still speaks of its variety. While it has high rs, it somehow pulls off a juggling act as there’s freshness too, with great acid balance. Wonderful texture, fabulous length, a wine to savour now and for years to come."

94 Points

"Excellent - A completely delicious wine with a distinctive bouquet of honeyed stone fruits and citrus peel preserve, there’s a spice layer suggesting baking spices then lees and whipped caramel. Delicious, creamy and intense flavours that mirror the bouquet, high acidity and concentration. While this wine will age for some time to come it is also perfect to drink from today. Best from 2026 through 2036."
