Thoughts and Reviews from UK Wine Personalities

Thoughts and Reviews from UK Wine Personalities
A round-up of reviews from the UK over the past three months, with a focus on our 2016 Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

Michelin-star chef and wine journalist Roger Jones of the famous Little Bedwyn restaurant featured our wines on leading on-trade online magazine ‘The Buyer’. He said of our 2016 Sauvignon Blanc:

Think wet river stone, seashore spray, white currants, passion fruit, guava, lemongrass, it is a wonderful combination that excites. It is layered and takes Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to a luxurious level that drinks well by itself but equally good with oysters and razor clams.”

And of our 2016 Chardonnay:

“Minimum human intervention (but the earthquake last year gave it a good shaking), lovely textured, white and yellow peaches, rich and opulent but with a purity and freshness that carries it well. Some spices from the oak, soft gunflint, drinking well now but will evolve majestically.”

Julia Harding MW for JancisRobinson.com on our 2016 Sauvignon Blanc -

“Starts with a gentle aroma of nettles rather than the full-blown Marlborough parade of green aromas, both fruit and herbal but it does open up to some green fig notes. It’s subtle but definite, dry Marlborough Sauvignon with plenty of flavour but no exaggeration, and impressive length.” 17 Points. Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com

And of our Chardonnay 2016 -

Gorgeous aroma of savoury, smoky reduction and ripe tangy citrus. Richly creamy on the palate and with less of the reductive character than on the nose. So creamy it tastes almost sweet but of course it is bone dry. Some oak spice but it is the fruit that shines on the palate. More mineral on the nose than on the palate. Firm, mealy and long. You couldn’t call it burgundian with this ripe, deep fruit but it is very classy and the oak is beautifull integrated. I’d wait another six months before drinking this though it gives masses of pleasure already.” 17.5/20 Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com

Meanwhile, Will Lyons writing for The Sunday Times Magazine said this month of our Chardonnay:

A complex Chardonnay from the home of spritzy, tropical sauvignon blanc that delights with its unctuous, inviting nose. Its lovely, toasty character gives way to a crisp, lean and long finish.” Will Lyons, ‘Autumn Wines to Fall For’ – The Sunday Times Magazine 04/09/17.

Chris Losh, writer for the UK's Imbibe Magazine featured Blank Canvas as part of our UK importer, Liberty Wine's 20th Anniversary Portfolio Tasting in September.

"Highlights for Imbibe included the barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, the Syrah – 60% whole bunch, and mixed with Grüner Veltliner skins – and the Chardonnay, Thompson’s [sic] own favourite wine."

All in all, some nice coverage in the United Kingdom!
