Cameron Douglas MS reviewed our new release 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, 2017 Abstract Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Gruner Veltliner with the following to say:
Blank Canvas Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Marlborough
Classic inviting, pure and fresh bouquet with herbs and wet stones, grapefruit, apple and plenty of fresh mango passion tropical fruit scents. On the palate - intense, crisp, refreshing, fruity, varietal, lengthy and just dry with a light salty air moment. A very nice wine, great balance and length - lots to like and enjoy. Drink now and through 2022. 92 Points
Blank Canvas Abstract Sauvignon Blanc 2017, Marlborough
Bold and very expressive bouquet with layers of dried and fresh herbs, citrus peel, wet gravelly soils and then some tropical fruit moments. The palate reveals much more with a silky texture, soft toasty wood spice with a vanilla edge, white peach, apple, wild flowers and rose flavours. There’s plenty of acidity to add freshness and structure as well as carry through the flavours to a lengthy finish. As the wine begins to open up the complexity and depth begin to show as well. A very good wine and one that requires your time and attention. Well made with a great finish. Drink now and through 2022. 93 Points
Blank Canvas Gruner Veltliner 2015, Marlborough
Really lovely bouquet of Gruner with aroma suggestions of pineapple and apple, sweet Meyer lemon and white flowers, a light white spice fragrance emerges as does a gentle dried herb note, all well integrated. On the palate - a medley of flavours and textures, harmonious, balanced and ready. Acidity contrast the fruit as well as keeping the palate light and refreshed, the non-fruit attributes show off the variety with classic white pepper and radish - all leading to a lengthy dry finish. Balanced and well made, ready. Best drinking from today and through 2022. 92 Points
Michael Cooper also reviewed the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc similarly rating it 5 stars:
The impressive 2019 vintage (5*) is a single-vineyard wine, grown at Dillons Point. Weighty and finely textured, it is refined, with incisive, very pure, ripely herbaceous flavours, a slightly salty streak, appetising acidity and a dry (2 grams/litre residual sugar), harmonious, lasting finish.
His thoughts on the Gruner Veltliner 2015 were also 5 star in nature:
Currently on sale and drinking well, the 2015 vintage (5*) is a single-vineyard wine, grown at Rapaura. Hand-picked, it was partly handled in tanks, but 60 per cent of the blend was fermented in French oak puncheons (20 per cent new). Bright, light lemon/green, it is highly fragrant, with substantial body and strong, peachy, slightly spicy, vaguely toasty flavours, complex, dry (2 grams/litre residual sugar), rounded and long.
