Blank Canvas Backs Marlborough’s Fine Wine Future with New Vineyard Acquisition

From day one Blank Canvas has celebrated the precision and purity that come from single‑vineyard sites; every vineyard a blank canvas. Today we’re delighted to reveal we have one to call our own: a remarkable 9‑hectare amphitheatre in the Omaka Valley, in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, that complements the diverse, site‑expressive wines we craft with our family of dedicated grower partners.

The site, planted in 2003 on steep, high‑density, low‑vigour clay slopes, offers two distinct aspects - a cooler east face and a warmer west face - which allows us to match variety to place rather than forcing varieties or style onto inappropriate terroir. Thoughtful, phased development will see us retain the established Pinot Noir on the cooler face and progressively convert the remainder (currently Sauvignon Blanc) to varieties we believe are best suited to the microclimates here, including Chardonnay, cool‑climate Syrah and Nebbiolo.

This acquisition is both a personal milestone and a strategic commitment to Marlborough’s fine‑wine future. The new vineyard gives us a dedicated home to tell the Blank Canvas story and deepen the small‑batch, single‑vineyard programme that has driven our critical acclaim to date. We’ll undertake careful investment to realise the site’s long‑term potential and to contribute to the region’s ongoing and evolving fine wine story.

Heartfelt thanks to our grower partners, distributors, customers, friends and family who have supported us on this journey. We look forward to sharing the progress of this long-term project on this special piece of land and continuing to build on the craft and recognition that define Blank Canvas.

The first vintage from the new vineyard will be in 2026 and we’ll be revealing more about the property, the development progress and the wines we’ll produce from it over the coming months via our social platforms! Stay tuned!!
